Brownsville Airport is the closest to South Padre Island. 30 minutes inland. You can rent a car or take the Rio Grande Bus to Port Isabel, where you can catch 'The Wave' shuttle to the island.

Harlingen International Airport is located 50 minutes inland from South Padre Island, Texas. You can rent a vehicle, or take the South Padre Shuttle to the island for only $20.

The Wave Shuttle

The Wave Shuttle is a free bus service that runs up and down South Padre Island. You can get anywhere on the island for free within a matter of minutes. The free island bus also travels across the bridge to Port Isable if you require other necessities.

The Rio Grande Shuttle

The Rio Grande Shuttle travels from Port Isabel throughout the Rio Grande Valley. You can connect with this shuttle from Brownsville Airport, as well as many other places in Brownsville. If you are traveling into Brownsville by plane, you can take this shuttle to Port Isabel for only $2 dollars, where you can transfer to The Wave Shuttle, and then get to anywhere you are staying on South Padre Island for free.

The South Padre Shuttle

The South Padre Shuttle is not to be confused with 'The Wave' (see above - The Wave Shuttle is the Island bus). The South Padre Shuttle travels between the Harlingen Airport and South Padre Island only. It only comes to the island to pick up or drop off people who are going to the Harlingen Airport. The South Padre Shuttle only costs $20 to get to the island, or to the airport.
